Water
Charlottesville Water is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of the City's water distribution mains, water main valves and fire hydrants, as well as the connection and disconnection of all water meters. In addition, Charlottesville Water installs and maintains water service lines from the water main to the water meter. As of 2017, there are approximately 1,047 fire hydrants, 3,366 valves and 180 miles of water mains in service for the benefit of Charlottesville residents.
If you have found a water leak outside of your home, please contact us right away (434-970-3800 or 434-293-9164). If the leak is located in the piping between the water meter and the main, we will repair it free of charge. If the leak is located in a pipe that is on the homeowner's side of the meter, then the homeowner must contact a plumber for repair.
