Energy efficiency is key to improving our environment, reducing your utility bill, and maximizing the benefits of natural gas. Small improvements to your home and your daily routine can make a big difference in reducing air pollution and your household expenses. The Charlottesville Department of Utilities provides energy conservation programs that complement the natural gas that you have come to depend on. These programs include free energy conservation tools, appliance rebates , and a partnership with LEAP to weatherize homes for income-qualified residents.

Visit the Local Energy Alliance Program's website for more information on how you can improve your home's energy efficiency.
The City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County have partnered with LEAP to provide residents with a Home Energy Check-Up (HECU) for the reduced cost of $45, or free for qualifying participants. During the HECU, a LEAP Energy Coach performs a full energy audit of the home, complete with the direct installation of energy saving measures. The LEAP Energy Coach will select the most appropriate measures based on the need of the resident's home and potential energy efficiency improvement.
