Lane closures extended on Ivy Rd due to Water Main Replacement Project

Expect delays on Ivy Rd near Emmet St intersection over next two days

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - Due to complications during utility work for the installation of an 8-inch water line, the Charlottesville Department of Utilities will keep closed several of the traffic lanes on Ivy Rd near the Emmet Street intersection until the roadway can be repaired.

Two way vehicular traffic will remain open, but will be constrained to a single lane on eastbound Ivy Road. The public can expect delays or should utilize alternative routes. The repairs are expected to be completed by Thursday, April 25, 2019. No sidewalks will be impacted.

The Emmet Ivy Waterline Replacement Project, which started in late October, will replace waterlines that are approximately 50-60 years old, and that have sustained multiple breaks. The installation of up-to-date ductile iron pipes will greatly improve water service.

On Emmet Street, this project will extend from the McCormick Road Bridge, north to the Ivy Road Intersection. On Ivy Road, the project will extend west from the Emmet Street intersection to St. Anne’s Belfield. The project will extend the entire length of Sprigg Lane.

All questions regarding this project should be directed to the project manager, Roy Nester. He can be reached either by phone at 434-970-3908, or by email at
