CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch from noon today, Friday, April 19, until 5 am on Saturday, April 20. The forecast is also calling for high winds, hail, and potential for tornadoes. This is a fast-moving system.
The public is asked to prepare for flooding, power outages, road blockages, and other infrastructure impacts.
This includes:
• Securing exterior items, such as garbage cans and patio furniture.
• Keep windows closed.
• Prepare a safety kit that includes basic items like water, food, flashlight, and batteries, and first aid items.
• Charge your electronic devices.
If you encounter flooding, turn around, don’t drown.
In the event of a tornado warning, be ready to take shelter in the lowest level and most central space in your workplace or home – away from windows, doors, and outside walls.
