CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA -The Charlottesville Department of Utilities is committed to providing safe, reliable, and low-cost water service to residents and businesses. As a part of the ongoing waterline project along Ivy Road, Emmet Street, and Sprigg Lane, the road closure of Emmet Street to thru traffic has been extended one week.
Faulconer Construction Company will maintain the current detour around the work zone. A map of the detour is provided on the following page.
Emmet Street between McCormick Bridge and Sprigg Lane, is scheduled to be reopened to traffic Monday, January 14th at 8 AM. Emmet Street between Sprigg Lane and Ivy Road, will remain closed until 5 PM on January 18, 2019.
Access is scheduled to begin Monday, January 14th at 8 AM to the Emmet Street Garage from Emmet Street. Due to the pending snow event, the reopening of Emmet Street may be delayed.
This waterline replacement project will replace pipes that are approximately 50-60 years old and that have sustained multiple breaks. The installation of new ductile iron pipes will greatly improve water service in this area. The project began October 22, 2018 and is expected to take seven months to complete.
This project is a part of the overall water main replacement program, which is integral in maintaining the safe, reliable, and low-cost water service provided by Charlottesville Department of Utilities.
