FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 6, 2020

Fourth Street SE to be closed between Garrett St. and railroad overpass for crane removal

Road will be closed January 6-10

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - Fourth Street SE will be closed to vehicular traffic between Garrett St. and the railroad overpass between January 6-10, 2020 to facilitate the removal of a construction crane.

At 8:08 a.m. on Monday, January 6, 2020, the Charlottesville Fire Department was dispatched to the partial collapse of the construction crane at the 323 2nd Street SE. One construction worker was transported to the University of Virginia Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.

The City of Charlottesville has issued a stop work order on the 3Twenty3 construction project until a structural engineer can evaluate the damage. Officials with the Virginia Occupational Safety and Health team of the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry responded to the site earlier today to begin an investigation.

This closure may be extended depending on the needs of the crane removal effort.
