Unity Days Event: Monticello to Main St.

  • Date: 08/03/2019 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Presented by the Thomas Jefferson Foundation at Monticello, The Monticello to Main Street tour connects the lives of families enslaved at Monticello to Charlottesville’s early history. The walking tour starts at the Slave Auction Block in Court Square and continues through downtown.  Guides will share stories of early African American residents and their relatives who fought against racial injustice to achieve freedom for their families.  The tour highlights contributions from people of color who helped create our local community and helped redefine the meaning of freedom in America.
