City to Propose Utility Rate Changes at May 21st City Council Meeting

Charlottesville, Virginia -  Charlottesville city staff will present the FY2013 Utility Rate Recommendations to City Council at their regular meeting on May 21 at 7pm in City Council Chambers. The City is proposing the following changes in water, wastewater, and gas utilities (rates are based on average single family household usage per month):

WATER
Current  24.63    Proposed  24.51    Change (0.12)    Percent  -0.49%   

WASTEWATER
Current  25.10    Proposed  27.72    Change  2.62    Percent  10.44% 

GAS
Current  77.75    Proposed  68.21    Change (9.54)    Percent  -12.27% 

TOTALS
Current  127.48    Proposed  120.44    Change  (7.04)    Percent  -5.52%

For Customers using water, wastewater, and gas the monthly charge will reduce by $7.04 or 5.52% of the combined charges for the average single family residential house using 472 cubic feet of water and 5,627 cubic feet of gas.

The rates charged to our customers are derived from charges from the Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority (RWSA), operating expenses of the City utility and debt service cost.
