Charlottesville, Virginia - The City of Charlottesville is proud to announce the launch of its GIS Viewer application, which provides the citizens of Charlottesville with access to detailed mapping information about the City. The application seamlessly integrates the City’s real estate assessment data with its spatial data while also providing a robust set of query and analysis tools.
“This GIS Viewer will allow the public to have self-service access to property and geographic data within the City,” said City Manager Maurice Jones. “The application reflects our commitment to expanding the availability of information that will benefit the City, its residents and business community.”
The web mapping application was developed with assistance from Worldview Solutions to leverage the City’s existing Geographic Information System (GIS). The City’s GIS stores detailed spatial information and attributes about all of the resources available in Charlottesville. For instance, a parcel not only has a boundary associated with it but also public information about ownership, assessment and sales. This is complimented by having access to dozens of other layers, including buildings, school zones, contour data, zoning information and points of interest. The web application uses the latest web technology, allowing citizens to access the site using any web browser and most mobile devices.
