Paratransit | UVA Ride FREE | FREE Trolley | Bikes and Buses
In an effort to promote public transportation as a viable and sustainable source of transportation among area teens, Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) has instated a new pilot program, expanding its Teen Ride Program to all high school aged students through June 30th, 2013. Based upon the success of the Charlottesville High School (CHS) ride program, students in grades nine through twelve will have the ability to ride any CAT bus free of charge. This will include home schooled students, county school students, and private school students. To ride fare free, students will simply show their student ID or CAT issued phot ID.
Don't have a high school photo ID? Call CAT's customer service center at 434-970-3649 to set up an appointment. Students wishing to obtain a CAT photo ID will need a birth certificate OR legal guardian present during their appointment.
CAT encourages everyone to consider the advantages to the environment and to the personal budget of using public transportation. This program provides the opportunity for area high school students to learn for themselves how public transportation can be a benefit.
CAT recognizes that other area students who are not in high school will be interested in riding CAT fare-FREE. Through this program, CAT will learn how best to expand service to other area students in the future.
