Paying Your BillPaying in Person

You may pay your City of Charlottesville utility bill in the lobby of City Hall.  The City accepts cash, checks, debit and credit cards for payment.  City Hall is located on the corner of 7th Street N.E. and East Main at 605 East Main Street. City Hall is open Monday through Friday, 8 AM until 5 PM, except on City holidays.

Drop Boxes

Checks and money order payments may be dropped 24 hours a day in the drop box beside the 6th Street entrance of City Hall (pedestrian access only), in the drop box located in the parking lot between the Downtown Recreation Center and the City Hall Annex (vehicular access available) and the drop box located in the vestibule of the entrance of City Hall between City Hall and the City Hall Annex.

Payments dropped in these boxes after 3 p.m. will be processed the following business day.

Please be certain to enclose your bill stub, account number, or other description of the bill to which you would like your payment credited, as well as a return address or phone number, so that your payment may be properly credited without delay.

 Mailing Payments

You may send in your payment.  A return envelope is including in your bill.  Please remember to allow 5 days for the posting of payments.

Credit Cards and Direct Debits

The City accepts credit cards for payment of your utility bills. You can perform a transaction online by Clicking here, or you may call 1-866-660-5185.  Credit and debit cards can also be used at the payment counter in City Hall. 

Payment Arrangements

The Collections Office of the Utility Billing Division is responsible for administering payment plans on utility accounts where customers are experiencing difficulty in paying their utility bills. Such conditions may result from unusually high winter bills or loss of household income. Payment options, including installment plans and payment deferrals, and utility assistance programs may be discussed by calling (434) 970-3211.
