Service and respect in any office is only as good as the people who work there.  Sheriff Brown's commitment to quality customer service is conveyed daily to his staff nine full-time Deputies and two part-time Deputies.  The Office of the Sheriff handles civil process of legal papers, inmate transportation, mental patient transportation for the Charlottesville Police Department through a cooperative agreement, and provides security for Charlottesville Circuit and General District Courts.  Criminal law enforcement is handled by the Charlottesville Police Department.

If you are a City of Charlottesville resident and received a court document for someone who does not live at the residence, please contact our office directly (contact information below).  One of our deputies will pick up the paper and return it to the issuing court.  If you have specific questions concerning a paper that our office served to you, please contact the issuing court directly.  Contact information is located at the top of the court paper.

If you have an emergency that is threatening to life or property, please dial 911.  If you don’t have an emergency but need to dispatch a Police Officer, Animal Control Officer, to report illegal parking, or if you need to report something out of the ordinary, please contact the Charlottesville-Albemarle-UVA Emergency Communications Center.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact any staff member.  Staff contact information is listed below with current photos.  Our office is located inside Charlottesville Circuit Court.  Please click on the navigation link on the left hand side called "Directions" on how to find us.
