The Jefferson Area Drug Enforcement (JADE) has been in existence since 1995 as a regional narcotics task force made up of officers from the Charlottesville Police Department, Albemarle County Police Department, University of Virginia Police Department, and Virginia State Police.
Currently the task force is manned by one lieutenant (commander), one sergeant and four detectives from the Charlottesville Police Department (CPD). The Albemarle County Police Department (APD) has assigned one sergeant and three detectives; the University of Virginia Police (UPD) has assigned one detective; and the Virginia State Police (VSP) has assigned one special agent. These local personnel also work closely with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), and The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF).
