This new parkland was acquired from a number of property owners to create a linear park along Meadow Creek. The creek was restored with assistance from The Nature Conservancy in 2012.

The Parks and Recreation Departrment has completed a master plan for uses for and improvements to all City parkland between Morton Drive and the railroad track at Greenbrier Park.

This plan will be implemented in stages beginning in the fall of 2014. Council has allocated $300,000 to build the two bridges and begin trail work. There is a budget request for $150,000 for next year to continue the trail work and install the playground.

BRIDGE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION IS UNDERWAY - See attached map for location of two proposed bridges between Hydraulic road and Brandywine to be funded with assistance from the Va. Dept of Conservation and Recreation.

Draper Aden has been hired by the City to undertake a flood study that will determine the extents of the 100-year flood plain and the floodway which will provide the constraints for the bridge design and location.  Once that study is complete, an RFP for design of the pair of bridges will be released.

The City has been awarded funding from the Va. Dept. of Conservation and Recreation via the Recreational Trails Fund, which is funded from the federal highways administration, to assist with the design and construction of the bridges. As part of that process, the plan is being reviewed by the Va. Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, the Va. Dept. of Historic Resources, and other agencies to ensure there is no meaningful impact to the environment or historic resources in the area. copies of these reports are available to the public.
