Rugby Avenue 1400 Block Street Design Workshop

Who: You are invited! Anyone with an interest in the future of Rugby Avenue

What: A neighborhood meeting to discuss “complete street” design alternatives for the 1400 block of Rugby Avenue

When: Feb. 12, 2015, 6:00-7:00PM 

Where: Walker Elementary Cafeteria

Why: In 2012-2013, the city had two public meetings to discuss striping improvements for Rose Hill Drive and the 1400 Block of Rugby Avenue. Based on feedback received, the City has revised the designs for neighborhood comment. This your chance to weigh in on plans for pedestrian crossings, bicycle improvements and on-street parking, on the 1400 block of Rugby Avenue!

Existing Conditions:
· ROW = 80’
· Pavement width = varies 39’-65’
· On-street parking (south side:26 spaces, north side:12 spaces)
· 10-11'’ travel lanes
· 2-8’ bike lanes
· Sidewalk on south side; partial sidewalk on north side
· Land Use: Single family residential
· Designated minor arterial with approximately 6,000 vehicles per day (VDOT, 2013)

March 2014 Proposed Striping Changes
Two public meetings were held in February and October 2013 to discuss a future vision for Rose Hill Drive and Rugby Avenue. The March 2014 proposal shows buffered bike lanes on Rugby Avenue and removal of on-street parking.

January 2015 Revised Design
Based on comments received from residents of the 1400 Block of Rugby Avenue, City staff has revised the design to provide for on-street parking, pedestrian crossing improvements, and standard bike lanes to provide safe and continuous connections to McIntire Park.
