Visits & Tours

Charlottesville Fire Department is proud to serve our city, and we invite members of our community to visit our stations, meet our teams and learn more about how we work.

We welcome families and individuals daily during regular business hours and offer tours for schools and groups that are scheduled in advance.

Ride AlongIMG_0949

Anyone age 16 or older may request a ride along on a fire engine. Ride along participants will be given a tour of their assigned station and all fire apparatus. During a shift, ride alongs will travel with the assigned crew to all emergency calls and get to observe that day’s training. All ride alongs must be requested at least 24 hours in advance and ride alongs are only allowed during daylight hours.

To request a ride along, please see the following:
If you are under 18, your parent or guardian must sign your liability release
All participants must submit the attached ride along request and submit it in person to the on-duty captain at any CFD station during normal business hours.

To prepare for your ride along:
You must wear navy slacks – no jeans, a navy polo without large logos, and closed toe shoes – preferably boots.
Bring a meal, depending on the length of your ride along.
During your ride along, even if you are a member of a volunteer or paid fire department, you may not participate in fire ground operations.
Think of questions you may have for the crew you are assigned.

The day of your ride along:
Show up on time to the station you are assigned. If you have any questions, please ask when you get your ride along information.
Be ready to have an exciting day with the Charlottesville Fire Department!
