Welcome to Charlottesville Area Transit!
CAT provides bus service to the greater Charlottesville area. Riders enjoy safe, clean, and comfortable service Monday through Sunday.

Clean Commute Day
On Friday, May 6, Charlottesville Area Transit will offer free rides on all routes.  In an effort to encourage local residents to use alternative transportation, CAT, RideShare, UTS, JAUNT, and Green County Transit are asking citizens to pledge.  Those who pledge will automatically be entered to win great prizes including Amtrak train tickets, Washington National baseball tickets, and 30-day CAT transit passes.  To pledge, click here.

Service Adjustments
A picture of the Rider's GuideOn Monday, May 23, 2016, Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) will implement a new service schedule.  Upcoming changes include route realignments through the Barracks Road Shopping Center and a detour around construction on the Rio Road intersection. Passengers may download the new digital Rider's Guide here.  Hard copy guides will be released May 16, 2016.

The Art Bus
Have you had a chance to ride the art bus?  Following the success of last year's painted Trolley, Charlottesville Area Transit has once again partnered with the Tom Tom Founders Festival to showcase art in the local community.  Click here for more information!

Unplanned Detours
Up-to-the-minute major delays and detours will be posted on CAT's Facebook page and pushed out through CAT's Mobile App.

Planned Detours

Updated 11/30 - Route 5 - Due to work on the Rio Rd / US 29 intersection, Route 5 is unable to serve the Rio Road East @ Albemarle Square bus stop (#14935), Rio Road West @ Northside Library Eastbound bus stop (#19812), Rio Road West @ Berkmar Drive Westbound bus stop (#17909), & Rio Road West @ Northside Library Westbound bus stop (#13306) from 9:00 PM until the end of service. This detour will continue each evening until further notice.

4/30 - Routes 4, 6, & 9 - Due to a road closure, Routes 4, 6, and 9 will not serve Lane Road on Saturday, April 30. Rather than traveling on Lane Road, all three routes will use Lee Street. Each route will approach Lee Street from Roosevelt Brown Boulevard. From Lee Street, buses will turn right onto Jefferson Park Avenue and right onto West Main Street. Route 4 will follow this path for both the inbound and outbound directions. Passengers who typically wait at the Jordan Hall and UVA Hospital bus stops on JPA will need to wait at a temporary CAT bus stop on Lee Street (UTS bus stop shelter). Passenger who wait for Route 4 at the outbound West Main Street @ 11th Street bus stop will need to cross the road and wait on the opposite side. The detour will be in effect all day.
