Welcome to Charlottesville Area Transit!
CAT provides bus service to the greater Charlottesville area. Riders enjoy safe, clean, and comfortable service Monday through Sunday.
Upcoming Service Adjustments
On Saturday, August 5, 2017, Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) will implement a new service schedule. As part of the update, CAT will make substantial changes to Route 4's schedule and Route 9's alignment. Several other routes will experience minor time point shifts and/or the relocation of select bus stops. More information about these changes can be found here.

Up-to-the-minute major delays and detours will be posted on CAT's Facebook page
and pushed out through CAT's Mobile App Monday to Friday between the hours of 8 AM and 5 PM (excluding holidays).
Planned Detour (Organized by Route)
Canceled Free Trolley - 7/24 - The Free Trolley will not serve the Alderman Road at Stadium Road bus stop or Alderman Road at AFC bus stop from service startup until 5:00 PM. The disruption may continue further into the week.
Free Trolley - 6/12/2017 through 8/11/2017 - The Free Trolley will not serve McCormick Road between the McCormick Road Bridge and University Avenue. Instead, the route will travel north on Emmet Street and turn right onto University Avenue. A temporary times stop will be installed on University Avenue near the Newcomb Road intersection. Trolleys departing from this stop will use the Chapel times.
Free Trolley - 3/25/2017 through August - The Free Trolley will not serve the Chemistry Building bus stop on McCormick Road (#11782). Instead, both nights stops on either side will receive day service.
Route 5 - 1/27/2017 through July - Due to construction on Berkmar Drive, Route 5 is unable to serve the Sam's Club bus stop (#13283). We anticipate this detour to continue into July. Passengers wishing to use the route should instead use the Walmart bus stop (#13296).
Route 7 - 5/31/2017 until further notice - Construction near the intersection of Hillsdale Drive and Greenbrier Drive is preventing Route 7 from serving the bus stop across from the Senior Center (#16577). Instead, a temporary bus stop has been installed near the Greenbrier at Westfield Road intersection.
Route 7 - 5/22/2017 until further notice - Construction near the Snyder Tennis Courts on Emmet Street is preventing Route 7 from serving bus stop #10660. Instead, passengers should use the Emmet Street at Central Grounds Garage bus stop (#10472).
