Galvin

BIOGRAPHY
Ms. Galvin has owned her own urban design and architectural practice since 1993.  She has been a registered architect since 1989 and a Virginia “Woman-Owned Small Business” since 2007. From 2001 to 2010, Ms. Galvin worked on such projects as the Eastern Planning Initiative, the Crozet Master Plan, the Places29 Master Plan and Transportation Study and the Uptown North Orange Form-Based Code. Ms. Galvin received a B.A. in Economics and Geography from Boston University in 1978 and a Masters in Architecture from the University of Virginia in 1986.

In the early to mid- 1990’s, Ms. Galvin served on the Charlottesville Social Development Commission and Housing Foundation and was the PTO President for Johnson Elementary School. From 1997-2000 she chaired the Albemarle County Development Initiative Steering Committee (DISC), which gave rise to the “Neighborhood Model.” In 2002 she received the AIA Central Virginia Chapter Community Service Award for her work on the DISC, the University of Virginia, Design Resources Center and the Charlottesville Housing Improvement Program. Since 2001, she has been an adjunct faculty member at the University of Virginia. 

In November 2007, Ms. Galvin was elected to the Charlottesville City School Board. In that capacity she served on the Commission for Children and Families, Weed and Seed, the Housing Advisory Committee, CRHA Redevelopment Committee and the School Capital Improvement Projects Committee. In November 2011, she was elected to the Charlottesville City Council and serves on the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission, Rivanna Water and Sewer and Solid Waste Authorities, Local Climate Action Planning Process, Workforce Investment Council, School Capital Improvement Projects Committee and the Charlottesville Development Corporation.

Ms. Galvin is married to Michael B. Costanzo, and their two sons, Patrick (CHS ’09) and Kevin (CHS ’13) have attended both Johnson and Burnley-Moran elementary schools as well as Walker, Buford and Charlottesville High School.  They have made 712 Lyons Avenue their home for over 20 years.
