The VSA Charlottesville/Albemarle (formerly Very Special Arts) committee meets quarterly to promote experiences in the arts for individuals with disabilities. The committee works closely with VSA Arts of Virginia, part of a national program that creates partnerships to promote the Arts.

January Art Show
Unique Individuals Display Limitless Talent
Show Highlights Local Artists with Disabilities

Paintings, drawings, and sculpture created by artists
with disabilities ranging from autism to cerebral palsy to
intellectual disabilities will be on display at the 14th annual
VSA Charlottesville/Albemarle Visual Art Show at the
Martin Luther King, Jr. Performing Arts Center. 
Over 100 area artists celebrate their creative talents
at the opening show on Friday, January 10, 2014
from 6:30 – 8:00 pm.  Many of the pieces will be
available for purchase, with the entirety of the
purchase price going to the individual artist. 
VSA (Formerly Very Special Arts) is a partnership
between the City of Charlottesville Parks and
Recreation and Albemarle County Parks and Recreation.
Its mission, “Promoting the creative power in people
with disabilities” is evidenced by its many ongoing projects;
art exhibits, the annual poetry book, and year round
artist led workshops, Virginia Festival of the Book activities,
a music recital, and the annual art calendar.  Many community
organizations help support and strengthen VSA activities;
in 2013, over 10,000 individuals participated in VSA sponsored
