The VSA Charlottesville/Albemarle (formerly Very Special Arts) committee meets quarterly to promote experiences in the arts for individuals with disabilities. The committee works closely with VSA Arts of Virginia, part of a national program that creates partnerships to promote the Arts.

Annual Events

  • Year Round Art Exhibit at Albemarle County Office Building.
  • Winter Art Exhibit at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Performing Arts Center .
  • Virginia Festival of the Book Therapeutic Activities 3rd week in March.
  • The Poetry book will be published each fall, works collected December -May.
  • Artist led VSA workshop in music, visual arts, movement, poetry and drama.

    VSA Charlottesville/Albemarle is a partnership that develops arts-based programs, activities and events for students and adults with disabilities. We are a member of the VSA Affiliate Network, a program of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

VSA Workshops
NEW!  Ring In The New Year! - Led by Ruth Muck
Participate in making music alive for the New Year with a simple set of colored hand bells.  The joy of music rings to all.  You will find that “Silent Night” isn’t a quiet song!

Range of Motion Dance
Susan L. Wiesner will offer a physically inclusive dance workshop, open to adults and teens (14+) with and without physical disabilities of all experience levels. Previous dance experience is not necessary, but good body awareness and control of assistive devices are needed. The workshop will feature:
• physically integrated modern dance technique
• partner stretching
• contact improvisation
• choreography
