The VSA Charlottesville/Albemarle (formerly Very Special Arts) committee meets quarterly to promote experiences in the arts for individuals with disabilities. The committee works closely with VSA Arts of Virginia, part of a national program that creates partnerships to promote the Arts.

Annual Events

  • Year Round Art Exhibit at Albemarle County Office Building.
  • Winter Art Exhibit at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Performing Arts Center .
  • Virginia Festival of the Book Therapeutic Activities 3rd week in March.
  • The Poetry book will be published each fall, works collected December -May.
  • Artist led VSA workshop in music, visual arts, movement, poetry and drama.

    VSA Charlottesville/Albemarle is a partnership that develops arts-based programs, activities and events for students and adults with disabilities. We are a member of the VSA Affiliate Network, a program of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Upcoming VSA Special Events
VSA Poetry Celebration
VSA Charlottesville/Albemarle celebrates the print release of the 2014 VSA Poetry Book with a writers’ event on Tuesday, October 21, 2014.  This 14th annual celebration takes place from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the lobby of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Performing Arts Center.  All the writers in this year’s book will be encouraged to read his/her poem at the event.   The event is free and open to the public.

Add colored wool, soap, and imagination, and you make FELT! An ancient technique for creating fabric, felting today is a popular craft and a magical experience for kids. In this workshop participants will explore a variety of felting techniques and may make a variety of felted objects: felt beads, ropes & balls, flowers, felt flowers, treasure pouches and more!
