The CAT FREE Trolley in service on West Main Street, with spring flowers in view.

A valuable community service offering free rides between Downtown Charlottesville, the University of Virginia Corner, and UVA Grounds, the FREE Trolley is enjoyed by students, visitors, and commuters alike.  CAT began operating this route in September 2000.

The FREE Trolley services CAT and University Transit Service stops along its route every 15 minutes on Monday through Saturday.  On Sunday, FREE Trolley service is every 30 minutes in the morning, and every 45 minutes in the afternoon.  The last Trolley leaves the Downtown Transit Station at 11:30 PM on Monday through Saturday, and at 5:00 PM on Sunday.

Green CAT Trolley vehicles service this route.  Regular CAT buses displaying a "FREE RIDE" sign may substitute for the Trolley.  From time to time, special events at the University of Virginia require the FREE Trolley to be delayed or detoured -- watch the News section for announcements.

More information about stops and arrival times is available on the FREE Trolley page in the Routes & Schedules section.

The FREE Trolley provides service from Downtown to West Main Street, the UVA Corner, and the Central Grounds of the University of Virginia.
