Passengers Using the New Farebox


Welcome to Charlottesville Area Transit!

CAT provides bus service to the greater Charlottesville area. Riders enjoy safe, clean, and comfortable service Monday through Sunday.
New Launch Date Set for Farebox Upgrade
On June 22, CAT will unveil its new fare collection system.  Passengers will soon have access to 24-Hour, 3-Day, 7-Day, 30-Day, 90-Day, and Annual Passes. Click here for more information.
Unplanned Detours 
Up-to-the-minute major delays and detours will be posted on CAT's Facebook page and pushed out through CAT's Mobile App.
Planned Detours 
5/18 through August - Free Trolley - Due to construction on McCormick Rd., the Free Trolley will not serve the AFC stop on Alderman Rd, or any stops along McCormick Rd.  Instead, the route will travel down Whitehead Rd, turn left onto Stadium Rd, and left onto Emmet St.  The Free Trolley will serve Rt 7 bus stops on Emmet St between Stadium Rd and University Ave.  For a detour map, click here.

CAT's FREE Mobile App
Mobile users who use the Android or iOS platforms now have access to a FREE transit app.  The app, which was developed in-house by the Charlottesville City IT department, gives users a complete view of CAT's transit system in real-time.  Maps, arrival estimates, and notifications are all part of the package.  To download your copy, search for "Charlottesville Area Transit" in your phone's mobile store or click here for Android or here for iOS.
Monthly Passes
Did you know that you can save up to $25 a month by purchasing a Monthly Pass?  Monthly passes only cost $20 (regular fare) or $10 (reduced fare).  Passes are valid from the first calendar day of the month to the end of the month.  Passes can be purchased from CAT's customer service window at the Downtown Transit Station, 615 E Water St.
