 Pay at City Hall

Payments may be made at the Customer Service Counter in the Lobby of City Hall. City Hall is located at 605 East Main St. at the east end of the Downtown Mall. The office is open from Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except legal holidays. Cash, money orders and checks are accepted at the counter. Debit card payments are now being accepted at the Customer Service Counter, however, there is a courtesy phone available for credit card payments. A fee is charged for all credit card transactions for tax payments. No fee is charged for pin based debit card transactions.

 Pay By Mail
|
Checks and money order payments may be mailed to: City of Charlottesville Treasurer's Office P.O. Box 9048 Charlottesville, VA 22906-9048 Please do not mail cash or credit card information. U.S. Post Office postmarks, not business meter stamps, determine the timeliness of payments.

 Drop Boxes
|
Checks and money order payments may be dropped 24 hours a day in the drop box beside the 6th Street Entrance of City Hall (pedestrian access only) or in the drop box located in the parking lot between the Downtown Recreation Center and the City Hall Annex (vehicular access available). Checks and money order payments may also be dropped during business hours in the drop box located in the vestibule of the 605 East Market St. entrance to City Hall. Payments may also be dropped in the drop box located in the Police Department Lobby at 606 East Market St. The Police Department Lobby is open from 6 a.m. until 11 p.m. daily. Payments dropped in these boxes after 3 p.m. will be processed the following business day. Please be certain to enclose your bill stub, account number, or other description of the bill to which you would like your payment credited, as well as a return address or phone number, so that your payment may be properly credited without delay.

 Pay by Phone

Credit and debit card payments for utility bills, parking tickets, personal property and real estate taxes, and the c.l.a.s.s. program may be made by phoning 1-866-660-5185. Please note that a convenience fee applies to all credit and debit card transactions for tax payments. Click here to view the convenience fee chart. Electronic check payments may also be made for tax payments for a flat fee of $2.50.

Easy Pay for Utility Bills |
The Easy Pay Plan offers customers the option of paying their bills by direct debit to their bank accounts. The convenience of automatic payments saves time and money and relieves the worry of payment deadlines. If you would like to participate, please complete the Easy Pay application, and send it along with a voided check or deposit slip to P.O. Box 591, Charlottesville, VA 22902-0591. This service allows you to pay your personal property or real estate taxes by automatically deducting your payment from your bank account, saving you the hassle of remembering deadlines and mailing in a check.
