Attention Home

Attention House Living RoomThe Attention Home is a co-ed group home located in downtown Charlottesville.  The program serves adolescents between the ages of 12 and 18.  The program provides a supportive but structured environment for children who have experienced difficulties at home, school and in the community.  Residents may be accepted for temporary, emergency and regular placements.  Placement for a successful participant typically ranges between 6 and 9 months.

Each resident has an individualized treatment plan that is designed to address his or her treatment issues.  The case manager for each resident provides informal counseling in addition to coordination and planning services.  Children in the Attention Home program have access to the entire continuum of Community Attention services.

In addition, children with special needs may be assigned a therapeutic aide or additional wrap around services to help them succeed in their placement.  In addition to the treatment plan goals, the residential environment provides an opportunity for the resident to improve daily living skills, learn decision making skills and develop a sense of personal responsibility.  The daily schedule includes three meals, chores and responsibilities, group meetings and recreation on selected evenings.

The Attention Home program allows participants to earn privileges by advancing through a level system.  Residents who demonstrate exceptional responsibility may earn the ability to be placed on an Independent status within the program.  The case manager will coordinate with family members and referring agents to transition each participant to a placement upon successful discharge from the program.  Aftercare services are provided to the participant and their family when appropriate.
