Student Ride FREE | Paratransit | FREE Trolley | Bikes and Buses
Under a pre-paid arrangement between CAT and the University of Virginia, UVA Student, Faculty, and Staff IDs are accepted as fare on all CAT buses.
Through this program, CAT has reached out to the University community, encouraged use of CTS, and developed new and more frequent riders. Ridership has grown on routes serving the University area as well as system-wide, increasing community mobility and transit awareness, and reducing vehicular traffic.
Each year, new students and employees numbering in the thousands arrive in Charlottesville without orientation to local transit options. Available parking in the two main destinations for this group, the University and Downtown areas, can be limited.
Through the fare-free program, CAT has made it easy for UVA students, faculty, and staff to try public transit, providing a ready-made introduction of mobility options in Charlottesville to both new residents and previous non-users.
