According to City Code Sec. 30-451, a cigarette tax of $0.35 is assessed on all cigarette packages sold in the City of Charlottesville. This tax may be paid by the seller or the distributor, by evidence of a stamp affixed to each package.

These stamps are available from the Treasurer’s Office and are provided in two applications:

• Single Sheet adhesive stickers (sheet of 100)
  
  
  
• Heat applied stamps (roll of 15,000)
  

Vendors are permitted a 5% discount of the tax amount to cover the costs incurred in affixing the stamps to each package.
