This land was originally part of McIntire Park and was long used as a connection from Lane High school and baseball field into McIntire Park

In 2006, the City undertook a project to build a multi-use trail and give the park its own identity.  Art in Place and the Living Center for Education partner with the City to keep this park attractive and clean, and to promote its use and natural state.

When complete (estimated 2011), the trail will again reconnect the old Lane High School (now the Albemarle County Office Building) to McIntire Park north of 250 bypass.
