Forest Hills Park Planning
The project is now under construction. The park is closed during construction for safety. The trail from Prospect/Johnson Village will be detoured along Orangedale Avenue while the park is under construction. We are anticipating construction to last into the fall.
FINAL FOREST HILLS PARK PLAN
Park Plan history
The 2005 Parks and Recreation Needs Assessment determined that the Forest Hills wading pool was in need of major repair or replacement. At that point it was determining that the whole park was a good candidate for an update to ensure it safely and sustainably serves its role as a neighborhood park.
The Charlottesville Community Design Center was engaged to help gather community input that lead to a draft park master plan. Items in this draft plan included a sprayground to replace the wading pool, addition of walking trails through the park, a new picnic pavilion
Public meetings were held in the park pavilion on:
Thursday, October 19, 2006 - At Park pavilion - to gather input
Wednesday, December 6, 2006 - At Tonsler Park - Present results of first public meeting

Timmons was hired in early 2008 to convert conceptual master plan to drawing and plans that can be put to construction. In this process, the basic items from the 2006 planning effort were fine tuned based on more detailed knowledge of site topography, trees, and community desires.
