Please be considerate of our parks. Cleaning up after your dog and picking up litter are simple examples of how you can keep our parks suitable for all visitors. Please enjoy them and visit them often.
Park Hours
6am to 9pm for the following parks: Azalea, Belmont, Fifeville, Forest Hills, Greenbrier, Greenleaf, Jordan, McGuffey, Meade, Meadowcreek, Northeast, Quarry, Riverview, Schenk's Greenway and Rives.
6am to 10pm for the following parks: McIntire, Pen, Tonsler and Booker T. Washington Parks unless attending an activity sponsored by the City's Parks & Recreation Department or another community event.
6am to 11pm for Jackson, Lee Park.
Dogs and Leashes
Dogs shall be kept on leash and under control on all school grounds, City-owned cemeteries, City parks, including Meadowcreek Golf Course, the pedestrian Downtown Mall between the Ninth Street bridge and Ridge-McIntire Road, and on all side streets between Water Street and Market Street which adjoin the downtown mall. Violation of the City's leash law is a Class 4 misdemeanor.
Dogs are allowed off leash inside the fenced off-leash area at Azalea Park and on designated portions of the Rivanna Trail on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays only. This time sharing option is being conducted on a trial basis. Darden Towe Park also provides a fenced off-leash area located approximately 200 feet east of the picnic shelter at the north end of the upper parking lot.
Dog feces shall be removed and disposed of in a sanitary manner in all parks, the Meadowcreek Golf Course, the pedestrian Downtown Mall, including the Pavilion, all maintained public school property, the Albemarle County Court House and Albemarle County Office building.
