Public Invitation to Participate in

Unity Days 2019 Community Event Planning Meetings

The first community planning meeting will be held on Thursday, February 28 from 6–8 p.m. at Carver Recreation Center.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - The City of Charlottesville invites the public to participate in the planning of Unity Days 2019, a community-driven event to mark the anniversary of events occurring during the summer of 2017. The first of a series of meetings will take place on Thursday, February 28, 2019 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Carver Recreation Center.

For Unity Days 2019, City Council has endorsed a community-driven planning effort for a series of events from May and running through August. City staff will facilitate event planning, make budget recommendations to Council, support marketing and outreach efforts, and develop public safety plans. Community members will identify appropriate activities, vendors, event leaders, speakers, and performers.

At this first meeting, City staff will be on-hand to answer questions and provide information on key dates, available resources, and to share how you can participate in developing the structure and programming for this important community-driven event. Additional meetings will occur every other week through August 8, 2019.

ABOUT UNITY DAYS 2019

During its regular meeting on February 4, 2019, City Council unanimously approved the designation of a new community-driven event called Unity Days to be held annually on the second weekend of August (and on August 12 when it falls during the week). Unity Days is an opportunity for Charlottesville to educate, inspire, and honor people in our community and to create movement towards healing and unity as we strive to achieve economic and racial justice.
