CHARLOTTESVILLE MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING CHERRY STREET HOMICIDE

60-YEAR-OLD GERALD FRANCIS JACKSON CHARGED WITH SECOND-DEGREE MURDER

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - UPDATE (01/15/2019): 60-year-old Gerald Francis Jackson of Charlottesville was arrested on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, and charged with second-degree murder.

Jackson is the neighbor of the homicide victim, identified as 55-year-old Richard Wayne Edwards.

Jackson is being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail without bond.

This is still an active investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call Det. Oberholzer at (434) 970-3895 or Crimestoppers at (434) 977-4000.

UPDATE (01/14/2019): The medical examiner has classified the suspicious death on Cherry Street as a homicide. The victim has been identified as 55-year-old Richard Wayne Edwards, and his next of kin has been notified.

There is no suspect information at this time.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call the Charlottesville Police Department at (434) 970-3280 or Crimestoppers at (434) 977-4000.

ORIGINAL (01/10/2019): Officers received a call at approximately 3:45 a.m. Thursday for a suspicious death on the 1100 block of Cherry Street. Detectives were notified and responded along with evidence technicians. The deceased has been identified as an adult male. His identity will not be released until next of kin has been notified. This is being investigated as a suspicious death, and the deceased’s body will be transported to the office of the chief medical examiner. Officers are awaiting the results of the medical examiner’s findings as well as any evidence collected from the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
