FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Update on winter weather conditions
Sunday, December 9, 2018 at 7:30 p.m.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - The City of Charlottesville remains under a Winter Storm Warning until midnight tonight.
Charlottesville City Hall will open on a delayed basis at 10 a.m. Monday.

URGENT PUBLIC SAFETY INFORMATION
The Winter Storm Warning for Sunday, December 9, 2018 is set to expire around midnight. However, temperatures are predicted to stay below freezing through the night. We are expecting roads in the City of Charlottesville to refreeze overnight with icy/slippery conditions in the morning.

CURRENT ROAD CONDITIONS
Charlottesville Public Works and the Charlottesville Police Department recommend residents use extreme caution on City primary and secondary roads and sidewalks. Please avoid driving until roads have been cleared.

The only road closed in the City of Charlottesville is on the hill at West High Street between Preston Avenue and 2nd Street NW. This evening the City will have the full snow team who will continue to plow and treat roads. Conditions should start to improve once it stops snowing, but we cannot provide a definitive time frame as to when roads will be cleared until precipitation stops.

DELAYS, CLOSINGS & SCHEDULE CHANGES
  • Charlottesville City Hall will open at 10 a.m. Monday
  • Charlottesville City Schools are closed on Monday. All programs are cancelled unless otherwise notified.
  • Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) will modify its routes tomorrow and just one Trolley, one Route 7 bus, and Route 2 will be operating. As conditions improve Monday CAT will return to full service as soon as possible.
