Water Main Replacement Project
on Emmet St, Ivy Rd, & Sprigg Ln starts Oct. 22

Open-house for affected residents and business owners has been scheduled for Thursday, October 25th, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - Charlottesville Department of Utilities is committed to providing residents and businesses with a clean and reliable source of water. In its continued effort to modernize the City’s water system, another phase of waterline replacement is scheduled to begin October 22, 2018 along Emmet Street, Ivy Road, and Sprigg Lane. This project will replace waterlines that are approximately 50-60 years old, and that have sustained multiple breaks. The installation of up-to-date ductile iron pipes will greatly improve water service.

On Emmet Street, this project will extend from the McCormick Road Bridge, north to the Ivy Road Intersection. On Ivy Road, the project will extend west from the Emmet Street intersection to St. Anne’s Belfield. The project will extend the entire length of Sprigg Lane. All residents living in or nearby the construction zone have been notified of the project by a door hanger placed by the contractor. There will be infrequent water outages for the project, and any residents impacted by a planned water outage will be provided 48 hour notice by way of door hanger.

The project will take approximately seven months to complete. During the project there will be temporary changes to parking and traffic patterns, and the project will include overnight work in order to shorten the overall project duration and impact.

An open-house for affected residents and business owners has been scheduled for Thursday, October 25th, from 5:30-7:30 pm at Faulconer Construction Company offices, located at 2496 Old Ivy Road. At this meeting, the City, its design consultant, and the contractor will be available to answer questions. The water main replacement program is strategic in maintaining the safe, reliable, and low-cost water service provided by Charlottesville Department of Utilities.

All questions regarding this project should be directed to the project manager, Roy Nester. He can be reached either by phone at 434-970-3908, or by email at nesterr@charlottesville.org.
