CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA – The City of Charlottesville announced today that the popular City Market has exceeded sales in any previous year and that is even before the Market closes for the season. According to City Market Manager Stephanie Anderegg-Maloy, the vendors have surpassed last year’s end of year sales record of $1,083,999.81. As of October 17th, records showed sales of $1,085,646.11 for a growing number of local vendors who sell baked goods, crafts, and vegetables among other “buy local” items. There are several more weeks to go for this year’s market and the Holiday Market will begin in November after City Market closes for the season. This year the Holiday Market will move to the same Water Street lot location to provide more space for the vendors. This move for the Holiday Market will also come with expanded Saturday hours from 8am until 2pm until the Saturday before Christmas.
Maloy said of the milestone “When I began as market manager in 2003 the most sales reported was $413, 339.42 in 2002. The sales have increased every year and I believe it is the wonderful group of vendors that the City Market as well as a wonderful customer base that visit our market every week rain or shine that have made the difference.”
